Over 80 sports development and health officials attended the Lancashire Sport Partnership annual stakeholder conference called “11548: The 1% Challenge for Lancashire” at Preston North End football ground on the 27th November. The event’s name refers to the ambitious target by the partnership to increase the amount of adults in Lancashire doing at least three sessions of 30 minutes moderate physical activity by 1% year on year. Lancashire’s 1% target is 11548 people and our partners, governing bodies for sport, and representatives from local government, education and the health sector discussed how they could influence more people in Lancashire to get active.
The conference was opened by two speeches from important national partners Sport England and the Youth Sport Trust. Stewart Kellett, Director of Sport England North West told the delegates of the participation challenge ahead for Lancashire and the influence of 2012 London Olympic Games. Steve Grainger, Chief Executive from Youth Sport Trust spoke about the 5 hour offer for school children, the aspiration for 2 hours P.E. and 3 additional hours of community sport outside of school.
The afternoon discussion sessions were full of great ideas to get Lancashire more active and if you attended on the day, thanks for all your contributions. Your ideas will form the basis of our partnership business planning. You can download a summary of the ideas here.
