Jane Sheridan, Senior Competition Manager

April 2008 saw the introduction of the Competition Manager’s Programme to Lancashire. This is a government funded initiative developed to increase the number of children competing in high quality, competitive school sport at a relevant level for the individual.

The vision is to develop for each sport a single competitive framework from top to bottom that includes competitions in schools and clubs. The framework seeks to increase participation in high quality competition for all young people; and will also be used to transform talent identification and development for the London Olympic Games and beyond. It will link work in schools with National Governing Bodies, Sports Clubs and Sports Development Teams. In addition to this, children who are not currently attracted to traditional competitive sports will be encouraged to take part in more alternative activities with a competitive theme

By September, every School Sports Partnership will have the equivalent of a competition manager for two and a half days a week.
