Lancashire Sport Partnership has launched its new headline strategy for 2009-12 to get more people physically active and enjoying sport across the County.

The strategy, produced following a 6 month consultation with an extensive range of partners from across Lancashire, identifies the aims, objectives and headline projects for its four priority outcomes.

Chief Executive Adrian Leather said:

“A lot of hard work has gone into putting this strategy together from sports organisations, local authorities, health colleagues, schools, colleges and universities to mention but a few. It's easy to overlook the work that our partners do. We come from a diverse range of organisations and backgrounds, yet we all understand the benefits sport and active lifestyles can bring for individuals and a healthier and wealthier Lancashire.

Over the past year, our partnership has become more focused on developing the sporting workforce, facilities and infrastructure across the county. Lancashire Sport Partnership and core team are working to ensure that those volunteers and paid staff have the skills, support and resources to enable our sport and physical activity offer to be second to none.

The development of a three year Strategy for Sport and Physical Activity proves that we share a common aspiration for Lancashire and I hope, with this new strategy, we can go on to have continued success as build up to the London 2012 Games”.

Linking with Sport England’s Strategy: Grow, Sustain, Excel; the Lancashire strategy commits the partnership to deliver on a series of demanding targets by 2012, including:

  • At least 16245 more people doing 30 minutes of activity three times per week
  • Supporting 500 clubs to achieve national Clubmark accreditation
  • Developing a network of 1000 qualified coaches across Lancashire
  • Attracting an additional £15million of external investment for sport and physical activity in Lancashire

Lancashire Sport Partnership will deliver the strategy with the support of its main funder Sport England, National Governing Bodies of sport (NGBs), local authorities, health, education and children’s services.

In addition, the Partnership has recently appointed a new board of trustee directors. The membership of the Board is intended to reflect the many positive attributes of sport and physical activity and brings together a variety of public and private sector experience.

Chair of the Board, Richard Jones commented:

“The new strategy and governance arrangements are vital to achieving our aim of increasing, sustaining and widening access to sport and physical activity across Lancashire.

The role of the board is to direct and support Lancashire Sport Partnership in its work with key agencies and funders to achieve the strategic goals. I’m confident the Lancashire Sport Core Team will keep a close eye on progress and ensure the strategy is delivered to its full potential.”
