Sporting stars from across the county were recognised at the Lancashire Sports Awards 2010, on Friday, November 26.

The glittering ceremony staged at the Paradise Rooms, Blackpool Pleasure Beach was hosted by Sky Sports news presenter and rugby league reporter, Angela Powers and recognised winners and runners up in six categories for their commitment to sport in the county.

Among the awards up for grabs were Coach of the Year (sponsored by the University of Central Lancashire), Community Club of the Year (sponsored by MWR Solicitors), Rising Star (sponsored by the Haythornthwaite Sports Foundation), Young Volunteer of the Year (sponsored by vinvolved Lancashire), and Special Recognition and Lifetime Achievement awards (sponsored by Lancashire Sports Partnership).

The awards categories were judged by former England captain, Jimmy Armfield OBE, Kara Nwidobie Sharpe, 'Panther' from Sky One's hit show 'Gladiators', and Marie Dixon, North West regional manager of the English Federation of Disability Sports.

The ceremony, sponsored by MWR Solicitors and vinvolved Lancashire, is now it its ninth year and brings together representatives from Lancashire's 14 local authority districts to celebrate the achievements of the county's most talented amateur sportsmen and women of all ages, and those who coach and support them.

The 2010 winners are:

Coach of the Year 2010

  • Commended: Kevin Davies (Athletics) - Blackpool

Community Club of the Year 2010

  • Winner: Thomas Street bowling club (Bowling) - Pendle
  • Commended: Fylde Cricket Club (Cricket) - Wyre

Young Volunteer of the Year 2010

  • Winner: Adam Eacott (Cricket) - Rossendale
  • Commended: Emma Inglis (Disability Swimming) - Blackpool

Rising Star 2010
sponsored by the Haythornthwaite Sports Foundation

  • Winner: Phillip Aspinall (Badminton) - Blackburn
  • Commended: Holly Bleasdale (Athletics) - Chorley

Special Recognition Award 2010
sponsored by Lancashire Sports Partnership

  • Winner: Skem Men-aces (Disability FC) - West Lancashire
  • Commended: Colin Makinson (Callon Kids Club) - Preston

Lifetime Achievement Award 2010

  • Winner: Raymond Townsend (Football & Cricket) - Pendle
  • Commended: Sid Jones (Rugby Union) - Wyre

Adrian Leather, chief executive of Lancashire Sports Partnership, said: "The 2010 Lancashire Sports Awards were once again a huge success and everyone involved should be proud of all their hard work and commitment.
