The North West Emerging Schools Cup Finals day culminated in breathtaking style as Siddal Moor Sports College competed against Lostock Hall High School in a pulsating final.

Both schools played their part in a very entertaining game which went right down to the wire. Each team traded tries throughout the game with no side ever leading by more than one score.

Lostock Hall from South Ribble produced a hard working performance interspersed with moments of brilliance from star performers Liam Osborn and Matthew Smith.

However, Rochdale school Siddal Moor clinched the win after a magnificent team performance. Ryan Tunnicliffe was outstanding scoring four tries and showing a full array of skills. Nathan Steventon (1), John Stott (1) and Matthew Mott (1) scoring the other Siddal Moor tries.

Siddal Moor Team Captain, John Stott said: "It was a shame one team had to lose, but we are delighted with our success. It was a great team effort to beat such a determined opposition."

Matt Birkett, the RFL’s North West Development Officer added: "The North West Emerging Schools Cup was piloted in 2007 and the popularity of the competition continues to increase.
