Street Games

The theme of this year's training conference is;

'Growing and sustaining the sporting legacy in disadvantaged areas'

Active People Survey 3 tells us that rates of participation are not going up. 60% of young people in disadvantaged areas tell us they want to play more sport. These two days of workshops and training are all about what are we to do to increase participation in disadvantaged areas and cash in on the boost that hosting the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games will surely bring.

This year‟s conference offers:

  • Practical sessions to improve the quality of delivery on the ground including; managing challenging behaviour, securing retention, supporting participants to become volunteer leaders, planning festivals and event management, etc.
  • Getting ready for 2012. With 1 year to go we give you tangible examples of how to get involved at a project level and the benefits of doing so.
  • Sessions for NGB development workers in getting started in doorstep sport
  • Sportivate - part of the 2012 Mass Participation Legacy Plan
  • Bringing more women into sport
  • 3 opportunities for experienced practitioners to learn how to deliver StreetGames training materials with their teams back in their own office. These workshops will be; funding and small grants, retention and working with women and girls
  • Urban Flow Dance - a one day Open College Network (OCN) accredited course at a massively reduced rate
