Through February and March Lancashire Sport, with support from Youth Sport Trust and sports coach UK, ran 2 new Multi-Skill Inclusion Module workshops for coaches, volunteers, SSCOs and teaching assistants that are multi-skill deliverers, and are looking to make their clubs and sessions fully inclusive.
Background to the course
Youth Sport Trust in conjunction with sports coach UK have developed a practical based 3- hour to address inclusive multi-skill delivery.
The workshop is specifically designed to equip multi-skill deliverers with practical ideas and strategies to effectively include a wide range of disabled and non-disabled young people in their multi-skill sessions and clubs.
The workshop addresses
- The positive inclusion of young disabled people in multi-skill clubs.
- Delivering and progressing multi-skill activities to a wide range of young disabled people.
- The use of disability sport and adapted activities and equipment.
The workshops were extended in Lancashire to a full day to include the workshop ‘An Introduction to the Fundamentals of Movement’. This was to ensure that all course participants had an understanding of fundamental movement skills, and therefore could confidently apply inclusion strategies to a multi-skill environment.
The courses were run at two venues in the County, with support from local Partnership Development Managers and sports centre venues:
- YMCA Leisure Centre ,Thornton
Supported by Matt Hilton (Fylde and Wyre School Sport Partnership)
- South Ribble Tennis Centre, Leyland
With support from Kevin Loughran and Karl Lucas (South Ribble and Worden &
Brownedge School Sport Partnership)
In all, a total of 41 people attended the workshops, a make up of:
- Community Sports Coaches
- Local authority coaches and staff
- School Sports Coordinators
- Volunteer coaches
- Teaching assistants
" I attended the Multi-Skills Inclusion Course as part of my Continuous Professional Development. As a Community Sports Coach I need to ensure that all of the sessions I plan and deliver need to be inclusive to enable all those who attend to participate. The course gave me a resource of ideas, which I can now take into my sessions and also reiterated coaching points that should be considered within all sessions. I believe that sports coaches work towards the goal of ‘Sport For All’ and the Multi-Skills Inclusion Course proved how we can all achieve that goal."
Community Sports Coach, Blackpool‘Themulti-skills workshop was very good. It helped to reinforce my understanding of multi skill activities and how they can be used to include people of all abilities. I feel that the whole day session is far better than the three-hour workshops as there is much more time to practice and learn. The session was fun and interesting and I have definitely improved confidence and knowledge surrounding multi skills/inclusion’
