Corpus Christi Catholic Sports College is the proud new host of the Preston School Sport Partnership.

County Councillor Alan Whittaker, Chair of the County Council, joined the launch day celebrations at the college, where children and young people from across Lancashire took part in a ‘medley of sport’ that included cycling athletics, tennis and golf.

Councillor Whittaker said: “The School Sport Partnership is a fantastic scheme and it’s great to see so many young people enjoying themselves and keeping fit.

It’s so important for children to keep fit and healthy, not just to help them to get the best out of their lives now but also to reduce the risk of illness in the future.”

School Sport Partnerships are groups of schools working together to develop PE and sport opportunities for all young people.

The Preston School Sport Partnership, which is supported by Lancashire County Council, started in 2003 and has helped to increase participation in school sports by over 40 percent.

Across Preston 80 percent of pupils aged five to 16 now take part in at least two hours of high quality school sports activities every week.

The partnership celebrations will continue throughout the rest of June and early July with a series of exciting sports events across Preston, such as a rounders pentathlon, a trampoline competition and the Lancashire Disability Youth Games.

These events will also form part of National PE and Sport Week which begins on 30 June.
