Sport Makers

The Sport Makers programme is your chance to help sport grow in your local community. Lancashire aims to recruit over 1000 Sport Makers over the next few years who will help to bring sporting opportunities to people across the county.

We will make sure you know what to expect and how to get the most out of your volunteering experience through an induction workshop where we will link you to a volunteering activity, sport and/or club that suits you.

Sport Makers is a fully inclusive programme and we welcome anyone who wants to get involved.

Criteria for a Sport Maker Volunteer

To apply to be a Sport Maker volunteer you must meet the following criteria:

  • Volunteers must be willing to work with people in the same age group (16+)

Criteria for a Sport Maker Placement

To provide a placement for any of the Sport Maker Volunteers you must:

  • Volunteers must only be involved with activities for participants ages 16 and over. (this includes any Sportivate activity programmes.)
  • Ideally the club should have someone in the role of Volunteer Coordinator who would support the Sports Maker volunteers. If there is no Volunteer Coordinator, an experienced mentor/buddy should be assigned to this role. (In the case of those working on sportivate, this responsibility could also be picked up by the 'owner' of the Sportivate plan, backed up by the NGB rep or SDO/Facility Manager.)
  • Clubs should be accredited or working towards an accreditation. (Clubmark or equivalent.) For community clubs this could be 'Investing in Volunteering' or 'Investing in People' accreditation.
  • Placement providers must be prepared to give feedback on the placement, log hours and ensure data is logged on Volunteer Web. If required, further training opportunities should be offered to the Sport Maker (leadership, officiating, event volunteering, role descriptions etc.)
