The Lancashire Safeguarding Children in Sport Group (LSCSG) has representation from a number of organisations throughout Lancashire including:
- 3 Local Safeguarding Children Board representatives from Blackpool, Blackburn with Darwen and Lancashire
- National Governing Body representatives from the Football Association and British Triathlon
- 5 Local Authorities
- Lancashire Constabulary
- East Lancashire Primary Care Trust
- Blackpool School Sport Partnership
The group also has strong links to the Child Protection in Sport Unit (CPSU) through their National Development Officer - Nick Slinn. In addition the Lancashire Sport Board fully supports the LSCSG and is represented by John Nelson who is Chair of the group. The terms of reference for the group are attached here.
The group is working towards the Lancashire Safeguarding Children in Sport 2010/11 action plan.
Key Achievements
The Lancashire Safeguarding Children in Sport Group has been set up since September 2008. During this period the group has achieved the following:
- Updated and developed the Lancashire Sport Partnership Safeguarding policy
- Produced information guidance such as the young person’s I-Card which had been distributed at all Youth Games events and Sport Unlimited Activities.
- Achieved the Advanced safeguarding standard (February 2009)
- Refreshed the annual year action plan (July 2010 – August 2011)
The Lancashire Safeguarding Children in Sport Group are currently working towards the creation of a toolkit for clubs and organisations to use to develop their safeguarding practices. The toolkit will include guidance, information and examples of best practice to help clubs and organisations develop excellent safeguarding practices.
