In July 2007, the Prime Minister announced additional investment into the PE and Sport Strategy for Young People to give every young person (aged 5 to 16 years) the chance to do five hours of sport a week (and 16-19 years, 3 hours per week). The investment will cover the following areas:
- the addition of FE sports co-ordinators (FESCOs)
- the completion of the roll out of competition managers
- top up grants to School Sport Partnerships to pay for coaching
- multi sport clubs for children with special needs
- funding to support extending ‘club’ activity designed to attract a different type of young person;Sport Unlimited
Sport Unlimited will focus on providing children and young people aged 5-19yrs of age who are 'semi-sporting' (estimated to be 50% of young people currently doing 2-3hrs of sport per week) the opportunity to do more sport. Sport Unlimited will provide high quality needs activates during school terms that are delivered in out of school hours and community settings.
